Leme estrelar

 Recentemente, vi um padrão de bordado que gostei muito e queria experimentar aplicar. Era um padrão simples, mas o efeito final era complexo e muito bonito. Não queria aplicar em algo que fosse ser muito usado, porque as linhas correriam o risco de serem puxadas nas rotinas do dia-a-dia e poderia estragar o bordado. Teria de ser algo que fosse decorativo. 

Decidi, então, aplicar numa fronha de almofada! Fiz o bordado num bocado de tecido de um lençól (ou de uma toalha antiga, não sei bem o que aquilo era), usando um reforço por trás próprio para fixar o bordado assim que saísse do bastidor. A fronha em si fiz com bocados de um cortinado cinzento, bem resistente. Apliquei um fecho que adquiri em segunda mão e no final apenas tive de coser o bordado à almofada.

Gosto muito do resultado final! É uma almofada grande, boa para decorar uma cama, por exemplo. Não recomendo para casas em que existam gatos, cães ou crianças pequenas, porque se os fios forem puxados, o efeito do bordado perde-se. 

Chamei a este padrão "leme estrelar" porque fiquei indecisa se me fazia lembrar uma estrela ou um leme de navio. E a vocês, o que vos faz lembrar? E fica mais uma ideia de como podem aproveitar os tecidos de peças que tenham em casa e às quais já não dão uso. E a ideia de que um simples bordado neste tecidos dá logo um ar novo e um espírito diferente.

Recently, I saw an embroidery pattern that I really liked and I wanted to try to apply it. It was a simple pattern, but the effect in the end was quite complex and pretty. I didn't want to apply it to something that was going to be used a lot, because the thread would run the risk of being pulled during the day-to-day routine and that would ruin the embroidery. It would have to be applied to something decorative.

Then, I decided to apply it to a pillow case! I made the embroidery on a piece of bedsheet (or a table cloth, I don't remember exactly what this white cloth was), using a reinforcement on the back, to fixate the embroidery when it came out of the embroidery hoop. The pillowcase itself, I made it with pieces of a gray curtain, which was a resistant kind of cloth. I applied the zipper, which I acquired in second hand and in the end I sewed the embroidery to the pillowcase.

I really like the final result! It's quite a big pillowcase, good to decorate a bed, for example. I don't recommend using it in a house with cats, dogs or small children, because if the threads are pulled, the embroidery effect will be lost. 

I called this embroidery pattern "star steering wheel" because I couldn't decide if it reminded me of a star or of a ship steering wheel. What about you, what does it remind you of? And here is another idea of how you can transform the fabric of items you have at home and which you don't use anymore. The idea that a simple embroidery on these cloths gives them a new look and a different spirit.
