Colete

São poucas as pessoas que sabem que tenho uma paixão por coletes. Quando era miúda, a minha mãe comprava-me imensos coletes e eu não gostava nada de os usar. Mas, hoje gosto imenso de os vestir! Acho que estão associados a determinadas épocas históricas e dão um certo estilo datado ao nosso guarda-roupa. 

Já há muito tempo que andava à procura de um colete com determinado feitio e padrão. Nunca o encontrei. Há umas semanas, descobri um tecido que tinha guardado quando o comprei, há três anos. Um tecido lindíssimo, com uma cor azul que adoro e com um padrão cheio de cogumelos, folhas, flores... Mesmo ao meu estilo! Comprei este tecido porque queria fazer uma blusa. Mas o projeto foi sendo adiado, e eu nunca tinha feito roupa na vida, por isso ficou guardado num canto. Há duas ou três semanas, decidi parar de procurar o colete perfeito e decidi fazê-lo. 

Ora, como nunca fiz roupa na vida, não tinha moldes em casa. Nem papel vegetal nem coisa nenhuma. Mas lembrei-me do que uma amiga uma vez me disse: aproveitar uma peça parecida e reproduzir. Não tinha coletes, mas tinha camisas! Por isso, aproveitei o modelo de uma camisa de manga curta e fui cortando o tecido com essas medidas. Entre mais cortes e menos cortes, entre dobras e inúmeras provas em mim mesma, lá consegui moldar o tecido num feitio que gosto. Alinhavei tudo com alfinetes e depois cosi, sempre à mão. Depois, adicionei uns cordões que fiz com o mesmo tecido e uns botões. A linha que usei para coser comprei em segunda mão, e os botões eram velhos, daqueles que vou guardando no pote dos botões. 

ADORO o resultado final. Estou apaixonada. Tosco, com medidas assimétricas, tudo feito com base na prova e de como me ia sentindo nele. Fiquei mesmo contente com o resultado. Tanto posso usar apenas com uma camisa por baixo, na Primavera, como posso usar com um casaquinho por cima, em que o tecido do colete fica à vista, no Outono. Tanto posso usar com um nó nas costas, como posso dar um nó à frente. Tanto posso usá-lo com os botões apertados, como posso usá-lo com os botões desapertados. 

Isto para dizer: se precisarem de alguma coisa, antes de comprar, experimentem fazer. Quanto mais experimentarem, melhor será o resultado. E o carinho que vão sentir pela peça será muito maior do que aquilo que sentem por uma peça comprada. Ficam as fotos do resultado final em baixo.

Not many people know that I love vests. When I was a child, my mother bought me a lot of vests and I didn't like wearing them at all. But, today, I really enjoy wearing them! I associate them with certain historical eras and I find that they give a certain historical look to our wardrobe. 

I'd been looking for a vest with a certain shape and pattern for some time. I never found it. Some weeks ago, I found a fabric that I bought three years ago. A beautiful fabric, with a tone of blue that I love, with a pattern full of mushrooms, leaves, flowers.. Just the way I like it! I bought this fabric because I wanted to make a blouse. But I kept postponing this project, because I had never made clothes in my life, so I kept the fabric locked away in a corner. Two or three weeks ago, I decided to stop looking for the perfect vest and I decided to make it.

Because I had never made clothes in my life, I didn't have any patterns at home. Not even greaseproof paper. But I remembered something a friend of mine told me: use the shape of a similar piece of clothing and reproduce it. I didn't have vests in my closet, but I had shirts! So, I used the model of a shirt with short sleeves and I began cutting the fabric with those measures. Between more cuts and less cuts, between folds and numerous "try-ons" on myself, I was able to shape the fabric in a pattern I liked. I put everything together with pins and I sewed, always by hand. Afterwards, I added two cords, that I made with the same fabric, and buttons. The threat I used was bought second hand and the buttons were old, from the pile of old buttons I keep in a jar.

I LOVE the final result. I'm in love. Clumsy, asymmetrical, made on the basis of trying it on. I was super happy with the final result. I can wear it with just a shirt underneath, in Spring, and with a jacket over it, where I can see the pattern of the vest, in the Autumn. I can wear it with a not on the back or a not on the front. I can wear it buttoned up or not buttoned at all.

This to say: if you need clothes, before you buy it, try to make it. The more you try, the better the result you'll get. And the love you'll feel for this item will be much bigger than the love you feel for something you bought. I leave you with the photos of the final result.
