Painel

Há pouco tempo, comecei a montar um pequeno estúdio de costura cá em casa. Agora, em vez de costurar na mesa de refeições, que estava sempre ocupada com as costuras e às vezes nem comíamos lá por causa disso, costuro numa secretária normal. Também tive oportunidade de separar as roupas que recebo e arrumá-las com algum critério. E tenho o material de costura, como as agulhas, as linhas, os botões, os tecidos, mais à mão. 

No entanto, as paredes deste quarto estão completamente em branco. E eu não gosto de paredes brancas. Não as quero pintar, mas queria dar cor ao espaço. Estou a pensar enchê-lo de peças de artistas que gosto e que fazem sentido aqui, em sintonia com o projeto/hobby do Écostura. Mas também queria fazer eu mesma alguma decoração. 

Ora, as peças que fui fazendo até hoje resultaram numa caixa cheia de bocadinhos pequenos de tecidos. São bocados que já não podem servir para forros ou bolsos, por terem uma dimensão demasiado reduzida. Mas também não são lixo. Não são miudinhos assim. No meio deles, também tenho recortes de tecidos que me vão dando. Restos de tecidos que as pessoas não usaram e, como deixaram de costurar, acharam que o Écostura era um bom destino para os pedaços. 

Foi com estes bocadinhos que decidi fazer um pequeno painel. Uma coisa meio tosca, nem lhe chamo patchwork porque isso seria um insulto ao patchwork, que é um trabalho lindo e cheio de técnica. Eu não tenho técnica. Mas gosto de experimentar e conjugar tecidos à minha maneira. Por isso, hoje venho mostrar-vos o painelzinho que fiz e que vou pendurar no meu estúdio. No início não estava a gostar nada do que estava a montar. Mas, no final, quando tudo começou a ser finalizado, comecei a gostar imenso do resultado. 

O painel foi feito com bocadinhos de tecidos, como vos disse em cima (desafio-vos a tentar reconhecer bocadinhos de tecidos que me tenham dado!) e a "moldura" foi feita com bocados de excedente de tecido de uns cortinados, aos quais tive de fazer a baínha. Na parte de trás, usei um bocado de uma fronha de almofada velha. O bocado de cana já o tinha em casa. Restos de uma cana que usei para fazer jardinagem e andava aqui sem destino.

Isto tudo para dizer que todos os bocadinhos de tecidos se aproveitam. E que com eles se podem fazer coisas bonitas para decorarmos as nossas casas e estúdios.

Some time ago, I started putting together a small sewing studio at my house. Now, instead of sewing on the dining table, which used to be full of sewing stuff all the time and often we couldn't eat there, I am sewing at a normal desk. I also had the opportunity to separate the clothes I receive and store them according to categories. And I have all the sewing material, like needles, thread, buttons, on the desk, right where I can reach for them.

However, the walls of this room are completely white. I don't like white walls. I don't want to paint them, but I wanted to give some color to them nonetheless. I am thinking of filling them with art from different artists that I like and that make sense in here, in harmony with Écostura's project/hobby. But I also wanted to make some of the decoration myself.

So, the items I made until now resulted in a huge box full of small pieces of fabric. These are pieces which I cannot use to make handbags. They are not good to make inside parts of the handbags or pockets because of their very small size. But they are also not trash. They are not so little. Among them, I have pieces of fabric that people give to me. Leftover fabric that people didn't use and, because they stop sewing, they thought that Écostura would be a good destination for them.

Hence, I decided to make a small panel with some of these small pieces of fabric. Something clumsy, that I don't even call patchwork. That would be an insult to patchwork, which is a wonderful thing and full of technique. I don't have technique. But I enjoy experimenting and combining fabric my way. Thus, today I show you the little panel I made and that I am going to hang on my studio. At the beginning, I wasn't sure about it. But in the end, once everything started coming together, I actually liked it.

As I said above, the panel was made with small pieces of fabric (I challenge you to identify pieces of fabric you might have given me!) and the "frame" was made with parts of a curtain to which I made the hem. On the back, I used part of an old pillow case. And I already had at home the piece of cane. It was a leftover from some gardening I did and it was hanging at the house without any destination. 

All this to tell you that you can still use all the little pieces of fabric. And you can make pretty things with them to decorate your house and rooms.
