Sobre os ombros

Este ano novo começou da melhor maneira. Nos primeiros dias, consegui acabar o meu primeiro projeto de tricot. Andava há anos a pensar em aprender e a sonhar com um xailezinho para pôr sobre os ombros. Quem me conhece sabe que em casa ando sempre com mantas no colo e que no trabalho ando sempre com um xaile por cima dos ombros. Mesmo no Verão...

Isto não significa que vou abandonar as costuras e a transformação de roupa. Não. Essas continuam a ser as paixões principais.  Só consigo ser criativa como gosto na costura e transformação de roupa. No entanto, decidi escrever este post porque, tal como através da costura, o tricot permite-nos criar. Criar com as nossas próprias mãos, em vez de comprarmos. 

Bem sei que nem toda a gente tem tempo para estas criações. Eu também não tenho muito tempo. E entre trabalho, costuras, leituras, filmes, séries... O tempo não estica e no meu grau de aprendizagem não me permite fazer peças de tricot muito depressa. Por isso, percebo-vos. Mas, também não custa tentar aprender e ir fazendo umas coisas.

Ora, relativamente à minha experiência com o tricot. Adorei. Achei muito relaxante. Uma boa pausa das agulhas mais pequeninas sem me afastar dos trabalhos manuais. Também me diverti imenso. É uma actividade que dá prazer genuino. Ver a peça evoluir, sem pressas, acompanhando o nosso ritmo de vida, literalmente. No final, a felicidade de utilizar uma peça feita por nós não tem comparação. Tal como a costura, o tricot também me ajudou a valorizar este tipo de trabalho. O tempo que demora fazer uma peça, o esforço, o amor... Cada peça que vejo numa montra tem agora um preço que não é o marcado na etiqueta. Ajudou-me a valorizar o trabalho da/do artesã/artesão. 

Quanto à peça que fiz, não segui padrão nenhum. Através de uns vídeos no youtube, aprendi um ponto base e fiz isto. O youtube e outros sites dedicados ao tricot têm montes de material e cursos para aprendermos tricot! É todo um mundo novo. E eu quero muito explorar estes sites e continuar a aprender. Há tanto para aprender no mundo to tricot!

A peça que fiz, é, no fundo, um rectângulo de tricot. Podia ter saído maior, mas não comprei novelos suficientes na altura. Só sei que me apaixonei por esta cor de canela e quis mesmo finalmente fazer qualquer coisa para tapar os ombros e resguardar o pescoço. Adoro estes xailes assim e há muito que queria um, com esta cor. Até em casa o tenho usado, que a minha casa é fria e tenho sempre imenso frio no pescoço. Friozinho, nunca mais!

Está perfeito? Nem por sombras! Aliás, tem montes de fiozinhos pendurados e buraquinhos fruto de engano. Mas sabem que mais? Adoro-o. E é super prático e vou usá-lo. E vou ter um imenso prazer em usá-lo. Porquê? Porque fui eu que o fiz e ninguém vai estar a usar uma coisa tão imperfeita quanto esta. Feita pelas minhas mãos. E ainda por cima com um acessório tão giro como este gancho de casca de coco que comprei no mercado local! E podemos usar uma peça destas de tantas maneiras. Nas fotos, podem ver-me usar por cima do casaco que levo à rua e por cima da roupa em casa. Mas também podem trazer por baixo do casaco de rua. 

E o melhor? Se um dia me cansar dele e o deixar de usar, posso sempre desmanchá-lo, refazer o novelo e fazer uma peça nova. Quanto aos novelos, podem comprá-los novos ou adquiri-los em segunda mão. Há lojas de coisas em segunda mão que têm novelos e agulhas de tricot. E aposto que as mães, tias e as avós têm algures um novelo ou outro para vocês começarem a praticar...

This year started in a very good way. During the first days, I managed to finish my first knitting project. For years I had been thinking of learning and dreaming of a shawl to put over my shoulders. Those who know me best know I always carry a blanket over my lap at home and a shawl over my shoulders at work. Even during Summer...

This does not mean I am giving up sewing and transforming clothes. No. Those are still my main passions. I can only be creative as I like through sewing and transforming clothes. Nevertheless, I decided to write this post because, just as sewing, knitting also allows me to create. Create with my own hands, instead of buying.

I know that not everyone has time for this. I also don't have much time. Between work, sewing, reading, watching movies, watching series... time does not stretch and my level of learning does not allow me to knit very quickly. So, I understand. But, it doesn't hurt to try and to make these things slowly.

Regarding my knitting experience. I loved it. I found it very relaxing. A good break from the smaller needles without going too far from creative work. I also had a lot of fun. This activity gave me actual pleasure. To see the shawl evolve, without rush, flowing along the rhythm of my life, literally. In the end, the happiness of using something made by ourselves has no comparison. Just as sewing, knitting also helped me value this type of work. The time that takes to make something like this, the effort, the love... Each thing I know see in a shop has now a price that is not reflected in the price tag. This helped me value the work of artisans. 

As for the shawl itself, I didn't follow any pattern. Though some videos on youtube, I learned a basic knitting stitch and I made the shawl. Youtube and other websites have tones of material and courses to learn knitting! It's a wonderful new world. And I really want to learn more about knitting. There is so so much to learn about it!

The shawl I made is in fact just a rectangle. It could have been bigger, but I didn't buy enough thread at the time. I only know that I fell in love with the cinnamon color and that I really wanted to make something to cover my shoulders and to keep my neck warm. I love shawls like these and for so long I wanted one in this color. I've been using even at home, because my house is cold and I'm always feeling a breeze on my neck. Cold, no more!

Is it perfect? Not a chance! Actually, it has a lot of threat hanging around and holes, a result of mistakes. But you know what? I love it. and it's super practical, and I'm going to use it. And I'm going to really enjoy using it. Why? Because I made it and no one will be using something as imperfect as this. Made with my own hands. And also with this gorgeous hook made out of coconut shell that I bought at the local market! And you can use an item like thus in so many ways. On the photos, you can see me wearing it over the coat I use outside my house and over the clothes I use inside the house. You can also use it underneath the coat. 

And the best of all? If one day I get tired of it and stop using it, I can always dismantle it, remake the yarn of wool and make a new piece. As for the yarn, you can buy them new or you can acquire them in second hand. There are second hand stores with second hand yarn and second hand knitting needles. And I bet mothers, aunts and grandmothers out there have a yarn hanging around that they don't want anymore and that you can use to practice...
