Amor por abóboras

No geral, acho que sou daquelas pessoas que prefere os dias de Verão, com sol, calorzinho, pouca roupa, luz e cores por todo o lado. Os meses de Janeiro, Fevereiro e Março custam bastante a aguentar. No entanto, aquele declínio do Verão, o regresso do vento fresco, os dias que vão encurtando, a chuva que volta a cair com mais frequência, as folhas amarelas, vermelhas e castanhas que caem no chão e começam a preencher as copas das árvores… gosto muito. É ao mesmo tempo triste e aconchegante. Não desgosto destas transições. Sim, há dias em que não apetece ir trabalhar porque ainda está escuro fora de casa, ou porque está a chover imenso e não chego a ver a luz do sol durante dias. Mas, há um encanto, não sei explicar. 

Uma coisa que ajuda a alimentar o sentimento de aconchego são as festividades de final do ano. O mês de Outubro traz o Halloween e o mês de Dezembro traz o Natal. Não, não gosto destas festas por causa das compras e das prendas. Gosto pela comida, pelo estar com a família e... pelas decorações. Tenho um carinho especial pelo Halloween. Bem sei que, hoje em dia, é uma tradição americana, que em Portugal não se festeja muito, mas gosto muito da tradição ancestral por trás do que hoje chamamos Halloween (pesquisem no Google, super interessante e Portugal também tem o seu Halloween). E todo este raciocínio para explicar que gosto do Outono, e do Halloween, e, consequentemente, de abóboras. 

Gosto de tudo nas abóboras. Das formas variadas, das cores lindíssimas, do cheiro do interior, da variedade de receitas que podemos fazer com elas, da textura cremosa que deixa na sopa… E das decorações com abóboras que se usam no Outono! Gosto de enfeitar a minha casa consoante as festividades que celebramos, mas de forma pouco ostensiva. Pormenores aqui e ali. Gosto pouco de bagunça. E como não queria comprar decorações, decidi fazer as minhas próprias decorações de Outono. E é isso que vos venho mostrar hoje. 

Há poucos dias, uma pessoa contactou-me a perguntar se aceitava roupa já muito desgastada e rota. Claro que eu aceitei ficar com as peças. Porque ainda não apanhei nenhuma roupa demasiado rota e com demasiados que não desse para aproveitar uns pedacinho aqui e ali para fazer qualquer coisa. Então, fiz as minhas decorações com bocadinhos destas roupas! A abóbora foi feita com uns pedaços de umas calças de pano cor de laranja. Adicionei enchimento que comprei. O topo foi feito com feltro verde escuro, que também comprei. As folhas vermelha e castanha também foram feitas com feltro e a folha amarela foi feita com feltro preto, por dentro, e com bocadinhos da t-shirt amarela muito desgastada que me foi dada.

In general, I think I'm one of those people that prefers Summer days, with sun, warmth, less clothes, lots of light and colour everywhere. The months of January, February and March take too long to pass by to endure. However, this decline of Summer, the return of fresh wind, the days that become shorter, the rain that starts falling again more frequently, the yellow, red and brown leaves that fall on the ground and that fill the trees… I like it a lot. It's sad and comforting at the same time. I don't dislike these transitions. Yes, there are days that I don't feel like going to work because it's dark outside or because it's raining so much I end up not seeing sun light for days. But, there's a certain charm, I can't explain.

One thing that helps feeding this comforting feeling are the festivities at the end of the year. October brings Halloween and December brings Christmas. No, I don't like these because of shopping or presents. I like these events because of food, family time and… decorations. I specially care for Halloween. I know that, nowadays, it's more of a North American tradition, that in Portugal it's not very celebrated, but I like the ancient tradition behind what we call Halloween these days (search on Google, super interesting and Portugal also has its own Halloween). And all this reasoning to explain that I like Autumn, Halloween and, consequently, pumpkins. 

I like everything about pumpkings. Of the diferente shapes, beautiful colors, of the smell inside, of the variety of récipes one can make with them, of the smooth texture it gives to soup… and the pumpkin decorations that are used in Autumn! I enjoy decorating my house according to the festivities that we celebrate, but not too much. Just some details here and there. I don't like a big mess and too much stuff. And because I didn't want to but decorations, I decided to make my own Autumn decorations. And that's what I am showing you today.

Some days ago, one person contacted me asking if I would accept very worn out clothes, with holes. Of course I accepted and I kept the clothes. Because I haven't yet found any clothes that are too worn out or with too many holes that I couldn't use the pieces to make something. So, I made my decorations with pieces of these clothes! The pumpkin was made with pieces of orange cloth trousers. I added the filling, that I bought. The top was made with dark green felt, that I also bought. The red and brown leaves were also made with felt and the yellow one was made with black felt inside and pieces of a yellow worn out t-shirt for the outsider.
